River's Den

Returning to Fur-Eh!

The convention has finally published the schedule, and I was able to find the day I'm most interested in. Last year, I missed out on Therian Meet -- life happened -- yet, this Summer I was determined to go, even if it's for a day only.

Broadway Tails

They say first convention experience is special, and it's never the same, regardless of how many times you come back. I treasure my first time, as it's been the highest point of my personal journey at that moment.

It was 2023, the first year in Canada, after months and months of immigration challenges, uncertainty, and mental health struggles. Furry has literally become the thing (apart from 7-11 sandwiches and canned coffee) that kept me going. Like a mirror, my fursona quickly evolved from just a quirky character to an invaluable tool for self-exploration and emotional safe space. Hanging out with other furs online eventually led to accepting myself as an LGBTQIA+ person. I wouldn't have been able to explore my gender, sexuality, and spirituality even -- without the Fandom.

Fur-Eh! Broadway Tails took place in Edmonton, which meant I had to travel to the neighbour province. I spent countless hours preparing for the con, commissioning artwork, listening to Furry, Explained by Finn the Panther -- an amazing podcast for newcomers. I knew it's going to be a blast when I saw a random passenger in the next isle drawing an anthro wolf.

The convention left a lasting impression of an exciting art festival, where everyone celebrates creativity, in all its forms. Visual arts, music, dance, written word, crafts -- whatever it might be. Perhaps for the first time in life, I found myself in a wonderful space among folks sharing the same values.

The atmosphere encouraged me to start drawing myself, and while my art may not be as accurate, complex, or polished as others', it gives me a creative outlet for ideas, emotions, and now I'm able to treat my friends to silly little drawings of their characters.

I even got to volunteer for a bit!

Retro Barkade

Two years later, I'm going to Retro Barkade -- and I'm super excited to see what artistic wonders the convention brings. I'll admit, after The Musical, my expectations are quite high 😅

Though, the event I'm there for is Kurt's Therian Meet. I treasure memories of the past one, where I felt this special deep connection to other animals and creatures, on a level of being -- and was seen and warmly accepted for who I am, by everyone in the room. Isn't it a miracle?

Awoo! 🦊

This time, I made me a badge and sticker sheets. I really hope there are no issue with printing, and they arrive in mail on time.

I'll be attending Friday evening, until Sunday morning. Intercity buses are scarce, accomodations -- expensive. I'm looking forward to seeing with old friends, getting to know new folks, and having a good time partying with fellow animal people.

Hit me up if you'd like to meet 🐾
